Approved is not the same as spendable

The gap between "the payment went through" and "the balance is there" is where most deposit anxiety lives. It is not a glitch. Authorisation, clearing and credit are three separate events, and the money is genuinely in transit between them. Here is how to read each state and know which one you are in.

Three states, three clocks

A deposit is in one of three states at any moment. Pending means the request exists and is awaiting an authorisation. Authorised means the money is reserved but has not settled — the operator may show this as a pending credit, and your bank may show a hold. Credited means settlement has completed and the balance is playable. Each state advances on a different timer.

Pending Authorised (hold) Credited and playable Reversed or declined

Reading the right state is the whole diagnostic. A player who is actually in "authorised" will wait; a player who is actually in "declined" will wait forever and should instead contact their issuer.

What an authorisation hold is

When a card or wallet authorises a payment, it reserves the amount against your available funds. That reservation is a hold: the money is ring-fenced but not yet moved. On a statement a hold often looks like a charge, and it reduces what you can spend, but it is not the final settlement.

A hold normally resolves one of two ways — it is captured, in which case it settles and the operator credits you, or it is released, in which case the funds return to you. The failure mode people notice most is a released hold that still sits on the statement for several days, so the same money appears spent even though the deposit never completed. That is a timing artefact of the bank, not a double charge, and it clears on its own.

The clearing clock is set by the rail

Clearing is settlement: the point at which funds actually move between institutions. Its length is a property of the rail and the calendar, not of the operator. Card clearing is typically fast; bank transfers obey cut-off times and working days; crypto clearing is a count of network confirmations; and none of them settle at a weekend or on a public holiday in the relevant jurisdiction.

This is why the same operator can credit one player in seconds and another in two days without anything being wrong. The rail, the day of the week and the hour of the day are doing the work, and the methods page gives each rail's characteristic range.

Reading your own clock

The most reliable way to avoid alarm is to know, for the rail you used, what the expected window is before you deposit — and then to measure from the moment you pressed pay, not from the moment you first looked. Two business days from Friday evening is not two calendar days; it is Tuesday under many banking calendars.

It also helps to watch both ledgers. If your statement shows a hold and the cashier shows pending, the money is simply mid-route and there is nothing to chase. If the cashier credits you while the statement shows nothing, the charge is still coming. The mismatch that matters is the one where neither side moves within the expected window.

Telling a slow deposit from a stuck one

A deposit is genuinely stuck when it has passed the outer edge of the rail's expected window in both ledgers and neither has settled. At that point the useful move is not to deposit again — repeating a payment is how duplicate authorisations happen — but to identify the state and route the query to its owner.

The failures page maps each state to the right action, and the checklist is written to keep a deposit out of the stuck state in the first place.

Gambling involves risk and can cause serious financial harm — including debt, damaged relationships and mental-health problems. Money sent to a gambling account is spent the moment you stake it, and a deposit can be lost entirely: depositing is irreversible in the sense that matters, because the balance it creates can go to zero. Free, confidential support exists in most countries through national gambling-harm helplines. Never fund play with money you cannot afford to lose, never borrow to gamble, and never deposit more to recover a loss.
