A crypto deposit is final the moment it is sent

Cryptocurrency removes the banks, the business hours and the chargebacks in one move — and trades away the one safety net every other rail has. Once a crypto transaction is broadcast to the wrong place it is, in practice, gone. This page is about the confirmations the operator waits for, the decisions that have to be right, and why the word "final" is not marketing here.

Confirmations are the real wait

A crypto transaction is broadcast to a network and then confirmed by blocks. One confirmation means it is included in a block; the operator usually waits for several named confirmations before crediting, because a transaction with few confirmations can in principle be reorganised. The credit therefore arrives not when you press send but when the required count is reached.

Block time multiplied by the confirmation count gives the minimum wait, and network congestion adds to it. This is why "crypto is instant" is only half true: the transfer can be fast, while the credit is deliberately held back for safety.

The network must match the account

A coin can often exist on more than one network — the same token sent over different rails. The operator credits a deposit only on the network it names, and a payment sent on any other one is very often unrecoverable. There is no issuer to ask and no chargeback to raise; the transaction is valid on the network it was sent to, just not useful for crediting the account.

Before sending anything, the address and the network shown in the cashier must match the network you select in your own wallet or exchange. Copying the address is not enough on its own — the network selection is a separate decision, and it is the more common mistake.

Memos and tags are part of the address

Some networks require a memo, tag or destination identifier alongside the address, because many users share a single deposit address. Omitting it can mean the operator cannot attribute the deposit to you even though the funds arrived. This is harder to detect than a wrong network, because the money is visibly "there" — just not associated with your account.

Where a memo is required, treat it as part of the address: both must be correct together. The checklist includes confirming the address, the network and the memo as one unit before sending.

Why finality cuts both ways

The property that makes a crypto deposit attractive — no bank can freeze or reverse it — is the same property that makes mistakes permanent. Every other rail has an institution somewhere that can intervene: a card issuer can reverse a charge, a bank can recall a transfer. A settled crypto transaction has no such backstop.

That is not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to be deliberate. It also means the earlier warnings on this site are not boilerplate: money that reaches a gambling account, by any rail, is at risk of being staked to zero, and a rail with no reversal simply removes the last illusion of a safety net.

The amount credited is not the amount you hold

Crypto is priced in a market that moves, so the value credited can differ from the value you sent, in either direction, even when the transfer is flawless. The count of coins is what the operator records; what that is worth depends on a rate that keeps changing between send and credit.

This means a crypto deposit can never be compared to a card or bank deposit by the number of coins alone, and it is another reason the total cost of a rail is only visible on the settled line. The fees page covers the conversion angle in general, and the methods page positions crypto against the reversible rails.

Gambling involves risk and can cause serious financial harm — including debt, damaged relationships and mental-health problems. Money sent to a gambling account is spent the moment you stake it, and a deposit can be lost entirely: depositing is irreversible in the sense that matters, because the balance it creates can go to zero. Free, confidential support exists in most countries through national gambling-harm helplines. Never fund play with money you cannot afford to lose, never borrow to gamble, and never deposit more to recover a loss.
